  • The park was founded in the year 1949 and falls in the area of Lika-Senj country and Karlovac Country. However, more than 90% of the area falls under Lika-Senj country while the remaining is in Karlovac Country. In the year 1979, UNESCO declared it is a world heritage site, which made the park even more popular.
  • There are numerous waterfalls inside the park, which add to its beauty. One of the most beautiful waterfalls is the Sastavci falls, aka the Sastavci Slap. The waterfall is actually formed by the Korana river falling from a height of nearly 26 meters, making it the perfect view for your eyes. If this does not please your eyes, there are many bigger waterfalls too. For instance, the Veliki Slap, aka the Large Waterfall, is the highest waterfall in the park, with water falling from a height of more than 78 meters.

  • As mentioned earlier, the best part about national parks is the wildlife and vegetation you get to see there. Talking about the Plitvice national park, more than ¾th oh, the total surface area is covered by trees and forests. The beech forest covers a major area, and it is home to various species of plants and animals. If you are a person who loves flowers and trees, you must visit the place during the spring season. The entire area looks colorful due to the flowers.
  • However, lakes are like the lifeline of Plitvice lakes national park. There are more than 16 lakes flowing in an area of 300 sq. km in the Plitvice lakes national park. These 16 lakes are divided into two types, i.e., Gornja jezera and Donja jezera. Of all the lakes in Plitvice national park, the Kozjak lake is probably the best one out there. The reason being, it is the largest and deepest lake with a depth of 534 meters above sea level.
